Critical Excel Tools for the Meeting Professional

James Spellos 

Excel can perform so many functions for the meeting professional, from  handling budgets, registration, calculating sleeping room rates and determining registration fees. This session is your opportunity to explore all of the functionality that Excel has to offer and take home tools to save you and your organization time and money. In this session, you will receive and work with three meeting industry spreadsheets: Rack Rate, Break Even Analysis and Attrition, along with a number of in-class worksheets, all tailored to the meeting industry.
 
Learner Outcomes:
  • Identify and use over 15 advanced excel tools
  • Customize graphs and other conditional formatting features
  • Use advanced tools such as data validation and work with multiple worksheets
James Spellos is the President of Meeting U, a company specializing in helping people become more productive and comfortable with technology.  
Jim is certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS). He is a recognized expert in the field of technology for business professionals, delivering nearly 200 seminars annually on how to become more productive & efficient using technology applications, including social media. He is a faculty member at New York University, teaching in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies since 1990. Jim joined the undergraduate faculty in 2002. 
 
Through Meeting U, Jim publishes a monthly technology e-letter named Techniques. This free newsletter shares technology applications and services that apply for professional and personal use. 
 
Outside of the meetings industry, Jim is an accomplished musician and songwriter, playing guitar, keyboards and singing for the New York City rock band Contraband. They released their first CD, “Welcome to the Neighborhood” in late 2008, with all proceeds going to charity.

MPIWSC’s Community Outreach Committee is asking members to donate women’s professional clothing at our March meeting. Of particular need right now are plus size professional clothing, shoes (especially 9 & 10), jewelry, trousers, handbags, camisoles, and umbrellas. Donation bins will be located by registration. 

Meeting Planners - take advantage of our special Planner for a Buck promotion for the March event. All non-member planners are invited to attend for $1.00. Current MPI members are encouraged to bring a planner for an additional $1.00!

Fees for this program are $40 members/$45 non-members/$25 students. 
If you register after March 23rd, the fee increases $10 for all attendees.
