Please take a moment to read through all the different committee opportunities available that are integral to MPIWSC's operation and success each year.
By getting involved you will gain leadership skills to assist with your career development, you will broaden your network and industry knowledge, meet new people and have fun!

MPIWSC Committee Descriptions
Programs Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To assist in the planning and execution of the Monthly Educational Programs that promote professional conduct and competence in the meetings industry.
# of events throughout year: 9 events
Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week for 6-8 weeks prior to the event
Subcommittees: Speaker Selection, Education, Venue Selection, Logistics and F&B
CMP Study Group Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To create awareness and value of the CMP exam to MPI members while supporting them in their effort to obtain the CMP designation. This committee will assist members in the exam process through the communication of exam deadlines, registration procedures and study groups.
# of events throughout year: weekly study sessions between Oct - Jan & April - July
Time commitment: 2 hours per week during study sessions

Industry Summit Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Planning and execution of the annual educational meeting that is held jointly with the Pacific Northwest Chapter of PCMA.
# of events throughout year: 1 event – the Industry Summit is held in September
Time commitment: 3 weeks – 9 months

Cascadia Educational Conference Committee
Purpose & Objectives: This is the core group of individuals that oversee the logistical planning and execution of the annual education conference that is held jointly between the Oregon and Washington chapters.
# of events throughout year: 1 – the Cascadia Educational Conference is held in March
Time commitment: 3 weeks – 9 months
Subcommittees: Transportation, F&B, Decor, Pre-Conference Activities, Education, Marketing & PR, Silent Auction, Sponsorship, Registration, Tradeshow
Newsletter Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Overall organization of the project of creating and publishing the newsletter to include recruiting and retaining writers, brainstorming and researching themes for overall newsletter (with the help of DOM and assistant), brainstorming, researching and recruiting writers for feature articles, creation of the annual Newsletter Production Schedule, creation and maintenance of the Run Sheet, communication to writers of key dates when articles are due, gathering the articles and organizing for editing and layout, working with the layout/publisher to give feedback on rough drafts.

Community Outreach Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To head up community service projects in which MPIWSC members can get involved and give back to the local community Charities. This position will handle the community outreach projects and be the liaison between MPIWSC and the Charity involved.
# of events throughout year: 4 community outreach projects throughout the year
Time commitment:2 hours a week starting 2-3 months ahead and follow up after the event (2-3 weeks)
Subcommittees: Fall Project (School Donations), Winter Project (Food Bank), Spring Project (Dress for Success), Summer Project (outdoor hands-on)
Charity Golf Tournament Committee
Purpose & Objectives: This position will lead a committee in planning a summertime golf tournament for charity. This position will work over several months at varying levels to choose Charity, confirm venue, obtain raffles items and other in-kind donations as well as oversee the coordination of the event. The Chair of the Charity Golf Tournament will oversee the committee.

Time commitment: 2-3 hours a week; weeks leading up to events up to 6-8 hours/week.

Website Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To maintain and keep www.mpiwsc.org up to date. Continue improving the site with information to assist our members. Make www.mpiwsc.org a reference for our members.

Time commitment: about a total of 1 hour a week, unless there are major updates

Eblast Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To communicate with our members of chapter news.
# of events throughout year: 2 scheduled eblasts per month, in additional to special eblasts needed

RegOnline & Programs Survey Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To create surveys for monthly educational programs and events in order to evaluate members feedback to increase chapter satisfaction
# of events throughout year: once amonth – after each monthly program and/or event

Chapter Chatter Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To gather fun facts, acknowledgements, birthdays/anniversaries, etc from the members and post it in the bi-monthly newsletter to update the chapter on what the members are doing outside MPIWSC.

Press Releases Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To promote MPIWSC events and chapter news by writing press releases and submitting them by the due dates to ensure MPIWSC is getting press coverage.
# of events throughout year: 2 – 9 press releases a year, depending on which writer position
Time commitment: 1 to 2 hours a month
Subcommittees: 3 Writers: 1 for Gala/June Celebration/Summit press releases, 1 for the Monthly Program press releases and 1 for MPIWSC General Interest articles
Advertising Coordinator
Purpose & Objectives: You will track run sheets and rate sheets for industry publications, work with publications on in-trade opportunities, and ensuring deadlines are met for any agreed upon/approved advertising.
# of events throughout year: none
Time commitment: On average you would spend about 4 - 6 hours a month depending on the deadlines of that month and the timeline of the run-sheet updates.

Cascadia Liaison/Writer
Purpose & Objectives: The Liaison would ensure press releases were submitted and members of the press informed of/invited to the conference. This volunteer would liaison between the PR committee and Cascadia Educational Conference Committee.

Time commitment: 4 months - about 2 hours a week the months prior to CEC, and about 3 – 4 hours 1 month out to CEC

Social Media Networking Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To create and manage the MPIWSC LinkedIn & Facebook groups. Keep it update to date, post events and chapter news. Research other groups to get ideas for the MPIWSC group.

Evening of the Stars Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Plan the details of our yearly Evening of the Stars celebration which honors and thanks all committee members and volunteers from our chapter.

Chapter Celebration (Awards) Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Coordinate the nomination and application process for Planner of the Year, Supplier of the Year, and Tomorrow’s Leader. Award the Silver Platter award. Create new awards and honors for our chapter. Coordinate the actual awards and gifts for outgoing board members and award winners.

Scholarships Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Coordinate the nomination and application process for the three scholarships our Chapter awards for the Meet Different, WEC and Cascadia Educational Conferences.

Shining Star Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Coordinate the nomination and application process for the quarterly Shining Star award.

Membership Orientation Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Run the member orientation held at the end of every monthly meeting. Goal is to welcome new members, guests and members who would like a refresher about how our Chapter and organization work.

New Members Bios Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Contact new members each month and get a small bio written about them for use in the newsletter and website.

Phone Tree Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Be available to make phone calls to members as needed throughout the year. Examples of calls are: Renewal of membership, invite to monthly meetings, inform members of upcoming events.

Needs Assessment Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Determine what our members need and how we can make their membership more worthwhile. And create a needs assessment survey and compile data and findings.

Purpose & Objectives: Find new ways to recruit and attract students and Faculty members to our Chapter

Greeters & Welcomers
Purpose & Objectives: Greet guests and new members at the monthly meeting. Take new members and guests around and introduce them to the Board Members.

Trade Show Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Coordinate volunteers to work booths/tables at tradeshows MPI currently advertises with (The Summit & NW Events both in September). Identify new tradeshows that MPI could potentially advertise in and create a Tradeshow booth with the current marketing materials.

Database Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Update the committee database/spreadsheet to ensure we have correct contact information and details on committee members and volunteers

New Members Phone Calls Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Call all new members to our Chapter and ask them about their volunteering and committee needs.

Committee Fair
Purpose & Objectives: Organize the yearly Committee Fair generally held in April. Duties include: organizing booths/tables, signage, volunteers to work the booths/tables.

Grant Committee
Purpose & Objectives:The MPI Foundation grants a maximum of $5,000 per chapter per year. The Grant Committee is responsible for coming up with ideas for submission to the MPIWSC Board of directors. Once approved by the BOD, the committee will write a grant to be submitted to the MPI Foundation.
# of events throughout year: 1 – 4 grants – will depend upon the number of grants submitted to reach the $5,000 limit.
Time commitment: July 1 – June 30. Depends upon the part of the committee you are on. If you are on grant writing, 1 to 3 months and the possibility of 10 hours total. If you are a part of the implementation team, it will depend upon what the grant was written for and what the project turns out to be. It could be as simple as turning the money over to the membership team and helping them to run a recruitment meeting or something more complicated that will require months of planning.

Nominations Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To develop a slate of officers that the chapter will vote into place by March 30 of each year. This slate will replace those officers that are leaving the Board, promote committee chairs and recruit members who will help to lead the chapter to be the cutting edge leader in our industry following our goals and objectives as set forth in our business plan.

Foundation Liaison Committee
Purpose & Objectives: Promote the MPI Foundation giving programs and message.
# of events throughout year: Currently nothing is scheduled other than the strictly socials. We will have a committee meeting to brainstorm other ideas.

Sponsorship Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To track sponsors and to ensure they are receiving appropriate compensations of their level of commitment and to assist in finding new sponsors for the chapter

Raffle Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To find two raffle items for each monthly educational program & the strictly social events, create signs for registration table, sell raffle tickets, conduct drawing and give money to VP Finance or Chapter Administrator at each event.

Gala Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To oversee the logistical planning and execution of the Annual Gala. The Chair of the Gala will over see all subcommittees.

Strictly Social Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To oversee the logistical planning and execution of the Strictly Social events held throughout the year.

Chapter Celebration Committee
Purpose & Objectives: To oversee the logistical planning and execution of the Annual Chapter Celebration. The Chair of the Chapter Celebration will over see all subcommittees.

Leadership Development Day
Purpose & Objectives: To oversee the logistical planning and execution of the Leadership Development Day, which is a half day educational program for volunteers only to thank them for donating their time to the chapter. The Chair of the Leadership Development Day will over see all subcommittees.
